Shen Changyu Meets with the UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism

Recently, Shen Changyu, the Director of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), met with Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, in Beijing, accompanied by the UAE Ambassador to China. Shen said China and the UAE are comprehensive strategic partners with close bilateral exchanges. In May 2024, they signed the first IP – cooperation document, and since then, their IP departments have maintained close communication and deepened practical cooperation. China is willing to further promote IP exchanges and cooperation with the UAE. Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri considered IP cooperation important for bilateral relations, and the UAE hopes to deepen cooperation with China. The two sides exchanged views on IP development, legal systems, personnel training, IT cooperation, and geographical indications.


Shaanxi Intellectual Property Protection and Development Conference Held

On September 16, the Shaanxi Intellectual Property Protection and Development Conference was held in Xi’an. Deputy Governor Li Jun and Deputy Director Lu Pengqi of the CNIPA attended and spoke. Li Jun stressed studying and implementing Xi Jinping’s remarks on IP work, fulfilling tasks in building an IP – strong province, unblocking the IP chain, and enhancing governance for new – quality productivity. Lu Pengqi affirmed Shaanxi’s IP achievements, highlighting the need to understand central government requirements, leverage Shaanxi’s advantages, promote high – quality creation, strengthen protection, utilization, and deepen IP reforms for high – quality development. Relevant CNIPA departments, Shaanxi IP Work Leading Group members, and representatives from cities, universities, and enterprises participated.


Bureau Leader Meets with Senior Vice President of Swiss ABB Group

Recently, Lu Pengqi, the deputy director of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), met with Charlotte Lyundahl, a senior vice president of the Swiss ABB Group, in Beijing. Lu said that intellectual property protection, as a key part of the business environment, has drawn more attention from Chinese and foreign enterprises. The CNIPA treats domestic and foreign – funded enterprises equally, protects intellectual property legally, and safeguards foreign investors’ rights. It will keep responding to enterprises’ concerns and creating a fairer, more transparent and predictable international business environment. Charlotte noted that China’s strong intellectual property protection gives foreign – funded enterprises confidence and motivation. The ABB Group will deepen its presence in China, increase investment and expand its business layout. Relevant bureau staff attended the meeting.


China-US-EU-Japan-ROK IP Five-Bureau Reexamination Institutions High-Level Meeting Held in Fuzhou

On September 16, the China-US-EU-Japan-ROK IP Five-Bureau Reexamination Institutions High-Level Meeting was held in Fuzhou. Hu Wenhui, deputy director of the CNIPA, attended and spoke. Leaders and representatives of the five IP bureaus’ reexamination institutions and observers from the World Intellectual Property Organization participated online or offline. The meeting noted that the cooperation mechanism among the five reexamination institutions is a beneficial exploration of global innovation governance. China expressed its willingness to cooperate with all parties. This is the first time the high – level meeting has been held in China. Representatives exchanged on reexamination progress and measures and reached a consensus on releasing the Five – Bureau Reexamination and Invalidation User Manual.


Jiangsu Strengthens Intellectual Property Protection in Pharmaceutical Centralized Procurement

Recently, the Jiangsu Provincial Intellectual Property Administration and the Provincial Medical Insurance Bureau jointly issued the “Notice on Strengthening Intellectual Property Protection in the Field of Pharmaceutical Centralized Procurement”. By establishing a full – chain intellectual property protection mechanism of “commitment – verification – disposal”, it offers a “Jiangsu solution” for preventing and resolving patent disputes in pharmaceutical centralized procurement. The Notice targets the pain points of intellectual property in this field and proposes three innovative mechanisms. It sets up a source commitment system to strengthen enterprises’ main responsibility, a rapid response system to improve dispute – resolution efficiency, and strengthens the closed – loop of collaborative supervision to form a long – term protection mechanism. The two departments will jointly handle patent infringement, take measures to stop it, and strengthen research on key products.

2025 Guangdong Huizhou Patent, Trademark, and Copyright Knowledge Competition Final Held

On September 17, 2025, the final of the “PICC Cup” Huizhou Patent, Trademark, and Copyright Knowledge Competition took place at Huizhou City Vocational College. A total of 20 contestants from the patent – trademark group and the copyright knowledge group competed on the same stage, enhancing public awareness of intellectual property rights.

The competition was guided by the Publicity Department of the CPC Huizhou Municipal Committee, hosted by the Huizhou Market Supervision Administration (Intellectual Property Office) and the Huizhou Copyright Bureau, and organized by the Huizhou Intellectual Property Association and Huizhou Newspaper Media Group Co., Ltd., with support from the Huizhou Branch of PICC Property and Casualty Company Limited. It aimed to implement the national intellectual property strategy and create a good social atmosphere for respecting knowledge, innovation, and intellectual property protection.

Since its launch in mid – July, the competition has attracted over 280 participants. The preliminary round was held from August 16th to 30th as online quizzes. Ten contestants from each group advanced to the final.

The final had three rounds: compulsory, quick – answer, and risk questions. After the competition, the winners of both groups were determined. The event effectively enhanced public awareness of intellectual property respect and protection, stimulated innovation vitality, and contributed to Huizhou’s high – quality development.

EPO President attends ISIF’2025 in Istanbul

EPO President António Campinos led an EPO delegation to the 10th International Invention Fair (ISIF) in Istanbul. The fair, organized by TÜRKPATENT with government support, is held alongside TEKNOFEST, bringing together global inventors, investors, and IP professionals. During the visit, Campinos met with Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Kacır, discussing strategic priorities, domestic technology scaling, and small – enterprise support. They also emphasized EPO – TÜRKPATENT collaboration, especially on AI – based tools, and exchanged views on emerging tech trends and IP’s role in innovation financing. Campinos talked with TÜRKPATENT President Zeki Durak, stressing bilateral cooperation under SP2028 and deeper engagement in the EPO Observatory. Both reaffirmed the long – standing partnership. The President visited the fair exhibition to learn about TÜBITAK – supported projects. This visit shows the EPO’s commitment to promoting innovation via IP protection and facilitating invention commercialization.
