Xinjiang’s Patent Implementation Projects Empower Industrial Development
In 2025, Xinjiang actively promoted patent project implementation for economic growth, focusing on four aspects. First, in source – quality control, it set up a “technology + industry + benefit” evaluation system, screened high – quality patents in biomedicine and agricultural product processing, and planned to approve 42 project – undertaking units. Second, regarding policy and financial support, different patent projects got 13.6 million yuan in financial funds, aiming to increase patent transfers and high – value patents, and promote intellectual property – related financing and certification. Third, the Xinjiang Market Supervision Bureau offered “one – to – one” services, held symposiums to solve transformation problems and promoted school – enterprise cooperation. Finally, patent projects activated the potential of characteristic industries, promoting patent technology industrialization, optimizing industrial layout. So far, they have leveraged 2.066 billion yuan in industrial output value with an input – output ratio of 1:19.1, bringing notable economic and social effects.

Is It Infringement to Use Others’ Trademarks as Search Keywords?
Some merchants use others’ trademarks as promotion keywords. In a case, A Company, the owner of “Mouyu” service trademarks, sued B Merchant for using “Mouyu” in online store search keywords and descriptions, claiming unfair competition and economic losses. The court found B Merchant’s use likely to mislead consumers, meeting the criteria of unfair competition. Since A Company couldn’t prove actual losses, profits of B Merchant, or significant reputational damage, and the infringing products were removed, the court considered various factors and ordered B Merchant to compensate A Company 3,000 yuan, dismissing other claims. The key to determining infringement is consumer confusion about the source. Merchants should respect trademark rights to avoid legal risks.

USPTO launches new design patent examination AI tool
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has launched DesignVision, an AI – based image search tool for design patent examiners accessible via the Patents End – to – End (PE2E) search suite. This is to streamline and modernize the examination process and cut application pendency. DesignVision can search U.S. and foreign industrial design collections using images as queries. It provides centralized access and federated searching of design patents, registrations, trademarks, and industrial designs from over 80 global registers, sorting results by image similarity. It will supplement, not replace, other search tools used by design examiners, who can still use other PE2E tools and non – patent literature. The full text of the Official Gazette Notice is on the USPTO website’s patent – related notices page.

USPTO Announces Accelerated Patent Grant Programs with Three Countries
This week in Geneva, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) reached agreements with Belize, Guatemala, and the United Arab Emirates. Under these, the three countries will accelerate patent grants for applicants who have a U.S. patent and filed relevant applications in their countries. Acting Under Secretary Coke Morgan Stewart said the programs are vital for the USPTO’s international strategy, contributing to President Trump’s agenda and aiming to deepen cooperation. These agreements benefit U.S. innovators by enabling faster and more predictable patent – getting in partner countries, promoting cooperation between patent offices, and creating foreign market opportunities. Partner offices will speed up patent – right grants based on the USPTO’s decisions.
